In the early 1970s, Omega started to develop a special outer case for the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch to protect it from the extreme temperatures of space. At that time, NASA was looking at exploring the dark side of the Moon and Omega wanted to be sure that the Speedmaster could function at the extreme temperatures. However NASA decided that the Speedmaster was perfect as it was so the Alaska Project Speedmaster remained a prototype. The Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Alaska Project celebrates the original prototype with this limited edition timepiece that is temperature resistant (in space) between -148c and +260c.
This watch is supplied in pristine condition and is unworn with the original Omega Alaska Project boxes, instruction manual, Omega Alaska Project Certificate of Authenticity presented on stainless steel bracelet, with 2x NATO straps, strap change tools and detachable red anodised aluminium outer case.
